How it is taken

Revia can be taken by mouth with or without food. It is necessary for the naltrexone challenge test to be negative before you can start taking the drug.

Drug Class & Mechanism

Revia is a narcotic antagonist that works by blocking the negative effects of injectable opioids (e.g., heroin, narcotic pain relievers). It also reduces the dependence to alcohol.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Revia then skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
 

Warnings/Precautions

Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances.

Do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how your body reacts to the drug.

You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or you have hepatitis, liver failure, or liver disease, are taking narcotic medications for pain, are dependent on narcotics, are experiencing withdrawal symptoms from narcotics, have failed the challenge test with Revia, or have tested positive for narcotics.

If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Revia and contact your doctor immediately.

It is unknown whether Revia is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.

If you notice any symptoms of hepatitis like stomach pain lasting more than a few days, white bowel movements, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, then contact your doctor immediately.

Revia should be used with extreme caution in children below 18 years of age as the safety and effectiveness of the drug have not been confirmed yet.

Ensure that you inform your doctor and your dentist about Revia before receiving any form of medical treatment or dental treatment or emergency surgery. You may also get an identity card that says that you are taking Revia.

Periodic lab tests including liver function may be recommended to monitor your health while taking the drug. Ensure that you do not miss any lab tests.
 

Possible Side Effects

Some of the common side effects of are anxiety, appetite loss, chills, constipation, delayed ejaculation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling down, headache, increased energy, increased thirst, irritability, joint and muscle pain, low energy, nausea, nervousness, sleeplessness, stomach pain/cramps, vomiting. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include anxiety, appetite loss, chills, constipation, delayed ejaculation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling down, headache, increased energy, increased thirst, irritability, joint and muscle pain, low energy, nausea, nervousness, sleeplessness, stomach pain/cramps, vomiting.

You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
