Beconase AQ is a corticosteroid nasal spray that is used for treating allergy symptoms and for the removal of nasal growths (polyps) after surgery.

How it is taken

Before using it for the first time, shake the container and replace the existing screw cap with the pump unit. Now, prime the delivery system with a few sprays until a fine mist appears.

The bottle is now functional to use. If you haven’t used it for the last 2 to 3 days, then you may need to reprime the pump with a few sprays.

You may clear your nose before using Beconase AQ by blowing it gently.

Place one finger against the side of your nose to close one nostril. Tilt your head forward slightly and insert the nozzle of the spray pump into your other nostril and press firmly to release the spray into it.

After each spray sniff in deeply through your nostril and breathe out through the mouth. Tilt your head backwards after the spray to let it spread on the back of your nose.

Your doctor will be the best person to guide you regarding a suitable dosage for you.

Drug Class & Mechanism

Beconase AQ is a corticosteroid that works by shrinking swollen and inflamed nasal tissue.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Beconase AQ, then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 2 and 25 degrees C (36 and 77 degrees F).
 

You must not use Baconase AQ if you have bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitic infection, chickenpox, tuberculosis, a positive tuberculosis (TB) skin test, measles, diarrhea, nasal ulcer, surgery, or trauma, or herpes infection in the eye, or if you have had a recent vaccine, have a very runny nose, have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding, are allergic to any ingredient in the drug.

Certain drugs can interact with Baconase AQ and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.

Some of the common side effects of Beconase AQ are a Bad taste, coughing, headache, hoarseness, nasal irritation or dryness, nausea and sore throat. Contact your doctor if these side effects persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), acne-like rash, continuing nose discomfort, excessive sneezing, increased pressure in the eye, infection (fever, chills, sore throat), irregular menstrual period, loss of taste or smell, nosebleeds or soreness, pounding in the chest, unusual weight gain, especially in the face, vision changes, wheezing

You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
